Fall Short against Westfield

Westfield kicked off to begin the game. 37 Cory Abron returned to the KO 40.
After a long pass from #10 Kenny Stover to #14 Charles Musslewhite, Stover threw
to #8 Michael Starr for the touchdown. The PAT was good. Score 7-0.
Klein
Oak kicked off and Westfield returned to the 35. The Mustangs moved the ball
into Panther territory then scored on a 40 yard run. PAT was good. Score 7-7.

Starr returned the kickoff to the 32 for Klein Oak. Stover connected long again
to Musselwhite who carried the ball to the Westfield 36. #7 Abron then ran for
35 yards taking the ball to the 1 yardline. Abron got the carry into the
endzone for the TD. The PAT was good making the score KO 14 WHS 7. After the
kickoff, the 1st quarter ended with Westfield in possession at the KO
41. The Mustangs used half of the 2nd quarter to move the ball into
the endzone and tie the game at 14.
Starr
returned the kickoff 54 yards to the WHS 41. However on 3rd down a
Stover pass was intercepted at the 28 yardline. Westfield moved the ball to the
KO 8yardline with 30 seconds left in the half. The defense stepped up and
recorded a quarterback sack and then #2 Carl Smith intercepted a pass in the
endzone to end the threat. The Panthers ran out the clock to end the 1st
half.

Jim Mills made the tackle on the 2nd half kickoff at the WHS 28.
Westfield moved the ball out to mid-field then scored on a 50 yard TD run. The
PAT failed. Score WHS 20 KOHS 14.
A
penalty after the Westfield touchdown had the Mustangs kicking off from the
50yard line. Westfield attempted an onsides kick that was recovered by #25
Barenger Gercula for the Panthers. On 1st down #8 Starr broke off a
55-yard touchdown run. The PAT was good giving the Panthers back the lead
21-20.
The KO
kickoff hit an upper lineman but Westfield recovered near midfield. The
Mustangs advanced the ball to the KO 8 yardline. The Panther defense made the
big plays and turned them away at the 3. The Panther offense moved the ball out
to the 43 yardline but had to punt. The punt was downed at the Westfield 35.
After a long pass moving the ball to the KO 5 yardline. Westfield fumbled and
the Panthers recovered. The Panthers moved the ball out to the 30-yard line.
After some curious officiating, they had to punt. Westfield got the punt at the
49. After some additional curious officiating, the Mustangs scored with 53
seconds left in the game. The PAT failed giving the Panthers some hope of one
last chance for victory.
The
Panthers returned the kickoff to the KO 30. On 1st down Stover threw
to Starr for 12 yards and a 1st down. Stover then threw to Abron out
to the 50. The Panthers were unable to make another 1st down and
turned the ball over on downs. Westfield ran out the clock securing the victory
26-21.

players on defense caught in the act of making solo tackles were: #22 Blaine
Robertson, #21 Le’Mon Ford, #92 Tyler Spearman, #38 Tyler Jones, # 97 Anthony
Geren, #18 James Garcia, and #44 Colin Russell.
