Klein
Collins kicked off to #7 Cory Abron who returned to the KO 29 yard line. 1st
down was a quarterback keeper by #10 Kenny Stover for 2 yards. Stover then
threw a screen pass to #8 Michael Starr. Starr ran for 15yards after the
reception for a 1st down. On the ensuing 3rd down play,
#21 Le’Mon Ford ran for 12 yards to pickup another 1st down. Nest
Stover passed to 37 Abron who ran for 13 yards. #30 Walt Williams got into the
action with an 11 yard run. On 1st down from the Collins 14, Stover
passed to Starr for 9 yards. Williams got the next to carries, the second of
which he broke into the endzone for the touchdown. Williams also carried the
ball for the 2pt conversion and an 8-0 lead.
The
Panther kickoff was returned to the KC 39. On 3rd down and 15, #2
Carl Smith made a nice tackle for a 3-yard loss on a reverse play. The Tigers
punted on 4th down. After the punt the Panthers started on the
9-yard line. #20 Ed Germany carried twice for about 5 yards but the Panthers
ended up punting. A short punt and a 10-yard return gave the Tigers the ball at
the KO 29. The Tigers moved the ball to the KO 20 yard line as the 1st
quarter expired. The 1st play of the 2nd quarter was 4th
down and 1 for Klein Collins. #16 Kali Rashaad, after being held on the play
made a fine play tackling the runner short of the 1st down marker
giving the ball back to the Panthers.
On 1st
down for the Panthers, Stover dropped back to pass then had to scramble for 8
yards. Williams ran for the 1st down. Later on 3rd down
Stover passed 20 yards to Abron for another 1st down. After a couple
short gains, Williams on 4th down rambled for 15yards to the 25-yard
line. Stover ran for 7 yards, Williams ran for 8 yards. After a 5-yard pass
from Stover to Starr, Williams finished the deal and plowed his way 10 yards for
the TD. 2pt conversion pass Stover to Starr for a 16-0 lead.
The
Panther kickoff was only returned to the 17. The Panther defense forced KC to
punt on 4th down. A short punt came to rest on the Tiger 27. From
the power run formation, Abron ran for 7 yards and was hit late out of bounds
collecting a penalty and adding 15 yards to the run. Stover then passed to #15
Andre Pitts who was interfered with in the endzone giving the Panthers the ball
on the 1-yard line. Williams again took the “touchdown plunge” from the 1. The
2 pt conv. Failed. Score 22-0.
The KO
kickoff was returned to the 40-yard line. The Tigers tried to put together a
drive before the end of the half, but the Panther defense stuffed it at the KO
20 yard line. The half ended with the score KO 22 KC 0.
Oak
kicked off to begin the 2nd half. The Tigers returned to the 34. On
3rd down and 6, #26 Keaton Studdard got to the quarterback causing a
fumble. Klein Collins recovered for a 10-yard loss. On 4th down the
KC punter fumbled and Studdard recovered for the Panthers at the 15. The
Panthers lined up with 4 receivers to the right. Stover threw the ball to Abron
who followed all his blockers into the endzone for the touchdown. 2pt
conversion failed. Score 28-0.
After
the kickoff Studdard continued to be the hot player on defense. He recovered a
second Collins fumble at the KC 25. On 1st down Stover passed to #11
Alfred Baratti who broke 2 tackles and ran for 12 yards. #21 Ford found the
endzone on the next play. The 2pt conversion failed again. Score 34-0.
On
their next possession, Klein Collins moved the ball to the KO 20 yard line but
fumbled the ball out of bounds on 4th down and the Panthers got the
ball back. For the Panthers Williams got the next 1st down on a
couple hard fought carries. Abron followed the good example and did the same.
#3 Kerry Harris then broke off a 32 yard run to the Tiger 5. After some
penalties moving the ball back to the 20, Abron ran for 13 and then 7 more for
the TD. One more time the Panthers tried the 2pt conversion and that one didn’t
work either. Score 40-0.
The 3rd
quarter ended shortly after the kickoff with the Tigers in possession at the
Panther 40. The Tigers moved the ball to the KO 25. On 1st down #18
James Garcia stepped in front of a Collins pass and intercepted it then ran it
out to the KC 43. The Panthers were not able to advance the ball and punted on
4th down.
During
their next possession, Klein Collins finally broke threw and ripped off a 57
yard TD run. The PAT was blocked. Score KO 48 KC 6.
Using
the talents of #15 Andre Pitts, the Panthers ran out the clock for the victory.
