Klein Oak vs. Klein
Freshman Black
October 2, 2008
HARD FOUGHT GAME AGAINST KLEIN
By a KO Freshman Mom
Thursday was “White Out” Night, for the Klein Oak
Panthers Freshmen, as they partook in their first away game of the season. Klein
Memorial Field looked quite fashionable with the “White, Black, and Gold” that
decorated the Visitor’s side. The visitors may have had to face the sun, but we
were greeted by a beautiful sunset and playful sliver of moon. The KOFB were
represented at the coin toss by (#20) Alton HILLIARD, (#23) Bradley KORENECK,
(#52) Ryan SPRADLEY and (#86) Daniel SHAUL.
FIRST QUARTER
The Panther starting line-up consisted of (#3) Deion
HILL, (#4) Khalil MAKNOJIA, (#6) Palmer CURRIE, (#7) James DORRIS, (#14) Luis
URREA, (#23) Bradley KORENECK, (#24) Chris HAYWOOD, (#32) Brodrick LACY, (#35)
Tuff McCLAIN, (#46) Cougar BABIN, & (#68) Geo REYES. The Bearkats kick-off
dropped at the Panther 35-yard line and bounced out near the 20. Klein Oak
possession lasted four minutes and five seconds. Through some hard fought
rushing and quick passes by Quarterback Nick Baratti, the entire Offensive Line
advanced the ball twenty-five yards. (#11) Austin ONDREIJ punted to Klein from
the Panther 45 which is where the Punt Team, led by (#77) Richard CARPENTER,
took them down. Klein’s possession lasted the remainder of the quarter. The
Panthers’ Defense showed great effort while forcing incomplete passes; however,
the Bearkats pressed up field. Even with great tackles by (#23) KORENECK, (#38)
Eddie FATU, and (#54) Dwayne PAUL, the Bearkats managed to score a touchdown.
After a measly 11-yard field goal, the score was 0-7.
SECOND QUARTER
It was a rough start for the Panthers first
possession of the quarter. A questionable penalty and a couple of incomplete
passes brought out the Punt Team from the Panthers 29-yard line. The Klein
possession that followed was measurable. The Defensive Line, including (#4) K.
MAKNOJIA, (#20) A. HILLIARD, (#23) B. KORENECK, (#38) E. FATU, (#54) D. PAUL,
(#63) Jay ANDREWS, and (#86) D. SHAUL made several admirable tackles.
Unfortunately, Klein pressed their way into the end zone to bring the score to
0-13. The Panthers started their own possession with two minutes and twelve
seconds left in the half. A nice hand-off, from (#10) N. BARATTI to (#7) J.
DORRIS, gave the Panthers a quick four yards. With a turnover on the field, the
Defensive Team took up claws against the Bearkats with harsh tackles, by (#23)
B. KORENECK, (#38) E. FATU, (#46) C. BABIN, (#63) J. ANDREWS and (#64) Chase
MAULDIN, to end the half, 0-13.
HALFTIME
Halftime was actually quite dull without our golden
girls enticing the crowd to get into a little ‘organized rowdiness’. The home
team girls apparently weren’t willing to ‘venture over’ to even challenge OUR
team spirit. All we needed were a few more fans!
THIRD QUARTER
The Kick-Off Team added a couple fresh faces to the
field, including, (#18) Kwana KUFFOUR and (#84) Jordan JONES, where a
three-point Panther Pounce by (#35) T. McCLAIN, (#46) C.BABIN, and (#68) G.
REYES, stopped Klein at their own 40-yard line. Good defensive plays by the
Panther Line ended the Klein possession with six minutes and forty seconds left.
With determination Klein Oak Offense took the field and after a couple of short
gain passes and hand-offs, (#38) E. Fatu ran the ball thirty yards up field,
with (#34) Matthew EMERSON making multiple blocks to clear his path. With the
Red Zone in reach, the ball was turned over and the Bearkats took possession, at
their own 15-yard line. It didn’t last long, after a quick tackle by (#68) G.
REYES, the Panthers forced a fumble that was recovered by (#63) J. Andrews, with
the help of the Defensive Line. Two more turnovers ended the quarter, still
scored at 0-13.
FOURTH QUARTER
Klein continued to the end zone for a touchdown, but missed their field goal,
due to good interference from the Defensive Team. With the score 0-19, KO took
to the field. They received on the north end and ran it back to the Panther 25.
After a pass play, a hand-off and an incomplete pass, the Punt Team headed on
the green. Klein blocked the Panthers punt and was tackled by (#11) A. ONDREIJ
and (#38) E. FATU. A Bearkats touchdown and field goal were interrupted by a
great sack from (#86) D. SHAUL, the score, 0-22. The Panthers possessed the ball
during the next three minutes and fifty-five seconds of the game. They made a
great march down field towards the end zone. (#10) N. BARATTI made a hand off to
(#15) Dashone SMITH, at the Panther 9-yard line, where he ran for 11 yards for a
first down. After a couple of quick snaps and short yard gains by (#15) D. SMITH
and (#20) A. HILLIARD the Panthers found themselves at the Bearkats 34-yard
line. With valiant effort and never quit attitude, the Panthers attempted to
score, but an incomplete pass in the end zone turned over the ball. With one
minute and twenty-seven seconds remaining, the Panthers showed respect and
dignity. They remained on that field and fought. The last three plays of the
game were a gnarling and gnashing of “I Don’t Quit”. In those last plays, Klein
Bearkats were stopped in their tracks by tackles by multiple Panthers, including
(#4) K. MAKNOJIA, (#32) B. LACY, (#40) Goergie ZDRAVKOV, (#46) C. BABIN and
(#82) Dustin PARMAN. Final score, 0-22.
RECAP
It was a rough night for our boys’ in black and
gold. But we are proud that they showed spirit and determination throughout the
game. They each deserve a pat on the back.
